INTRODUCTION TO AC CIRCUITS

This chapter is on introduction to ac circuits. Since the mains suppy is sinusoidal, special technique has been developed to deal with ac circuits. This chapter introduces basic concepts needed for ac circuit analysis.

The introductory sections are on:

• Sinusoidal signals,
• Complex Numbers ,
• Phasors, and
• Representation of elements in ac circuits .

The chapter also presents analysis of simple ac circuits, containing only two passive elements, apart from the source. A few applets have also been presented, where necessary.

Understanding of complex numbers and phasors is necessary for analysis of ac circuits. The next chapter is on further analysis of ac circuits.
